I lived in New York City for 12 years after graduating from the College of Mount Saint Vincent with an art minor but did not use my art degree post-graduation. Instead I worked a variety of office jobs for big corporations. When Covid-19 hit I was living in the heart of the East Village on Saint Marks Place. As someone on the vulnerable list with a history of asthma I found myself creating art for the first time in over a decade. Suddenly it did not matter whether or not I thought I was good enough. It became clear to me that this might be it. I watched the morgues on wheels from my bedroom window. I saw friends die overnight. I used art as a way to cope with what was happening. I was too afraid to step out to buy art supplies so I instead used household supplies. My boyfriend (now husband) and I had to stay apart since no one knew anything about the virus. He would leave cleaning supplies and food outside of my apartment door in exchange for a painting. The first painting entitled Pandemic in my series All Hands On Deck pictures one of these notes. In the midst of the disaster of the pandemic I discovered my true calling and decided to change my career. I am currently enrolled in graduate school at Hofstra University in NYC to become an Art Therapist. It is my goal and vision to harness the healing power of art that I was made aware of during this turbulent time to help others who are also struggling and in need of healing. My husband and I currently reside in Wicomico County Maryland but hope to someday return to the big apple once there is a vaccine.
