Pretty Wall Flowers.
24"X30" Unframed (Abstract mixed media using acrylics, modeling paste, and inks)
Beautiful rich turquoise, white and a pop of pink make up this abstract floral painting. The use of texture gives some of the flowers a raised appearance, building depth in the painting.
Artist: Matia Spicer
Matia Spicer is an emerging artist born, raised, and still living in Laurel, Delaware, USA with her husband of 25 years, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. She creates high energy, visually stimulating mixed media (using mainly acrylics) paintings ranging from abstracts, florals that are a mix of imagination and reality, as well as abstract portraits of women that convey the beautiful complexities and depths of female emotion. The goal of her art is to bring joy, light, and hope to the viewer, causing them to pause and think.
Matia began painting the summer of 2019 to balance the grief of taking care of her dying mother. She then completely immersed herself in her art that September after her mother’s passing.
She calls her method “Intuitive Imagination” because the source of imagination is in the intuitive process, which includes curiosity and playfulness (and because it sounds fancy!). She does not set limits on styles or technique and enjoys experimenting with new materials. She is inspired by the beauty of nature, dreams and childhood memories, the creative imaginations of her grandchildren, rich colors, textures, as well as the strength and overall awesomeness of women.
Matia earned a bachelor’s degree from Salisbury State University in 1991 in Elementary Teaching. She went on to teach in public school for 18 years. She now pursues her art full time and is excited about getting her art out to the public.
