Abstract 7. Acrylic on wrapped canvas.
There are those people who bring a splash of color into our lives, who see the world through a different lens. And while this perspective is wonderful, even more glorious, is their ability to present this view to us, and, we are forever changed; THE ARTIST. Phyllis Jaffe was just such; endowed with these gifts which were enhanced by her zeal for life, delightful personality, incredible talent and tremendous wisdom, she literally changed the world around her, one brush stroke, one loving kindness, and one robust expression, at a time. Phyllis loved the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council (SWAC) and was the kind of board member who keeps hearts attached; through support, promotion, and generous donations, long after her term expired. Now in leaving this world, she gave SWAC the ultimate gift; her spirit: the entire collection of all of her works, as a continual source of revenue and delight. Perhaps the most endearing art was her ability to mentor, befriend and encourage. One rainy day, we felt this heart art, reading a 4-page hand written letter of accolades, addressed to the SWAC Executive Director, and sunshine broke through the clouds. By merging divinity and art into a single flame of color that brightens our lives, combined with abounding talents, awards, and achievements, her relentless care and energy have filled us with the art of hope; those magic colors that transform the mundane into the sublime. As Phyllis so eloquently quoted in her WHITE WATER RAPIDS painting, “I will feel the cool mist on my face, for the rest of my life” … We too, are immersed, and our lives forever misted.
